Dentistry Celebrates 125th Anniversary

Under the banner of 125 Years of Innovation, the UCSF School of Dentistry celebrated on Saturday, July 15th with a daylong Continuing Education lecture program, followed by a wine and cheese reception. The day was co-sponsored by Delta Dental of California.
The diverse program included presentations by Dr. Alton M. Lacy of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences (PRDS) on new restorative products and strategies, a survey of current stem cell science by Cell and Tissue Biology professor and Fisher Laboratory director Dr. Susan Fisher, and a discussion of implants for single tooth replacement by Dr. Arun Sharma of PRDS.
Dean Charles Bertolami commented on the particular appropriateness of observing the anniversary in the context of context of a Continuing Education program, noting that the School was established in 1881 to further the professional education of practitioners of dentistry.
The reception, characterized as "a wonderful event" by Associate Dean for Education Dorothy Perry, took place in the expansive Fisher Atrium of UCSF's Mission Bay Community Center, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta.
